Rajaraja Chola’s 1040th Sadaya Vizha begins
Thanjavur: The 1040th Sadaya Vizha, marking the coronation of King Rajaraja Chola, began in Thanjavur on Friday with cultural events, seminars, poetry sessions, and historical performances.The celebrations opened with a procession of artists from the Thanjavur Maratha Palace to the Peruvudaiyar Temple (Big Temple), showcasing traditional art forms and depictions of the Chola king.District collector P Priyanka Panjam inaugurated the festival near the temple. A grand cultural programme featuring hundreds of artists followed inside the temple complex.Seminars, concerts, poetry recitals, debates, and Bharatanatyam performances are being held as part of the two-day celebration. A historical drama based on Rajaraja Chola’s life was also staged.On Sadaya Nakshatra day, Nov 1, the king’s statue will be garlanded, and a special abhishekam will be performed inside the temple sanctum. The festival will conclude with a valedictory event on Saturday.
